DUI: Driving Under the Influence:
This is one of the leading causes of automobile accidents today. DUI (Driving while under the influence) is not a very good idea, not only does it put yourself at risk, but also everyone else on the road. Driving Under the Influence just isn't associated with alcohol. You can get a DUI by driving under the influence of any drug, legal or illegal. Any drug which alters your perception in any way, can get you a DUI, that even includes some cough syrups! So, you're leaving the bar and you think it might be a good idea to drive.. Well give yourself the test, and see if you are fit to drive. Here are the 6 simple questions you can ask yourself if you are ok to drive:Remember these things, they can save you from a DUI!
- Look for the ugliest chick in the bar, and ask yourself if you would take her home right now. If you answered yes, congratulations, you are unfit to drive.
- How many beers have you had tonight? The human body can only process 1 oz of alcohol an hour, so that means that if you had 2 beers and you were at the bar for 2 hours, you may still be ok to drive. BE CAREFUL: Even ONE BEER can alter your perceptions slightly! And you can still be caught and charged with a DUI.
- Can you Say the alphabet backwards, without making any mistakes? If you can congratulations, you must be ok to drive, because I can't do that sober...
- How far are you driving? Remember that even though you may not be under the influence of alcohol, you may still get that “burn out” effect and get extremely tired very fast... So if you feel fine, and have done the 1 oz of alcohol per hour scenario and given yourself at least 2 hours of leeway, then you might be ok to go a short distance. If not.. You risk falling asleep at the wheel, and still be charged with a DUI!
- Can you shake your head rapidly and still see fine afterward with no vertigo? If you can then you can probably drive, but again.. Use the 1 oz of alcohol an hour calclation.
- Above all else, ask yourself.. Do you want to risk getting a DUI?? Anyone coming out of a bar, can technically get a DUI based on suspicions. And you won't want to be tied up while they take a breathalyzer, and then decide to slam you in the clink anyway... So, the smart thing to do after a night on the town is to get a cab.. Of course it's always a good idea to take a cab TO the bar as well if you are having a big party planned.
